Deconstructing Male Gaze installation
In Use • ALT Rigatoni
How do we look at each other and which experiences shape the way we look? How do gazes, random or directed, contribute to a categorization into subject and object? Where does this hierarchizing effect of our gaze come from? How can we question and overcome this? All these questions are the focus of the exhibition Deconstructing Male Gaze!. The exhibition is conceived as a queer-feminist examination of hierarchical subject-object relationships in the urban space of Stuttgart.
The installation, situated outside the StadtPalais in Stuttgart, is created as part of the FemPalais, in queer feminist and collective collaboration with Adapter, Queer Feminismus and Salon Chichi. The text is set in Rigatoni, particularly suited to the long, broken and angled panels that compose the main part of the installation. The viewer is invited to walk and reflect, both metaphorically and physically on the concept of the male gaze.
